The Last of the Mounted Warriors

On 1 July 1966 the Mourne Observer published a supplement to mark the fiftieth anniversary on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.  Included were interviews with surviving members of the North Irish Horse, Dick Kelly (685, A Squadron), Robert Hassard (1234, D Squadron), William Rooney (831, C Squadron), Johnny Heenan (390, A Squadron) and William Kirkpatrick (299, C Squadron).
